The Sabre 27 was designed by Alan F Hill. The prototype was built in 1969 by Eric White of Marine Construction (UK) Ltd (Marcon). Between 1969 and 1979 some 400 hulls were moulded.

After construction of the first 25 boats (Mark I) the mast was lengthened by 2' 6", a consequential modification to the ballast made, the deck moulding altered in the scuppers and the cockpit floor raised slightly. This became the Mark II.

Early in production, the original plywood interior was replaced by a GRP moulding and in the mid 1970's the deck moulding was modified to include an anchor locker and fixed polycarbonate windows were fitted in place of the aluminium framed sliding windows.

Boats were sold at various stages of construction, from bare hull and deck only, with 'staged' kits for home completion, through to 'fully fitted' to sail away. The most recent Sabre was launched 1st May 1999. On this page are various Sabre 27 yachts for sale in the UK and abroad.

Description Harmony is currently moored at Hambleton on the river Wyre in Lancashire. She has a Beta 20 hp diesel fitted in 1999 which pushes her along comfortably at 5 knots. She has all the usual equipment, DSC radio, Navtex, GPS, echo and log. Heads, galley with two burner stove and grill. Hood furling and two genoas with a good mainsail. Standing rigging part renewed last year. Selling to buy bigger boat. Very good condition inside and out.

Description Reluctant sale as wife no longer keen to sail. Survey report carried out 2006 available to view. Purchased in 2003, previous owner had replaced main and Genoa in 2000, fitted with plastimo 608 furling gear.

In our ownership the original Volvo Md 2 engine has been replaced with a good (650 hours) Beta Marine 3 cylinder (previously used).
This has drastically improved the power, economy and overall performance of "Soloist" both under power and sail owing to the drastic weight reduction.

Another plus is she no longer squats as do most Sabres when under power with four in the cockpit. At the time of  the engine replacement a new shaft and propeller were fitted, also a new split coupling and an R&D Drive plate, also at this time a new Morse control and cables were fitted."Soloist" is a very solid safe boat and sadly requires a new owner to continue the improvement to her condition that i have begun.

Description Standard late build Sabre 27, fin keel, with 6 berths. Yanmar YSB 12 diesel, rebuilt 1996. Foil mainsail, 1997 + spare. Rotostay furling, genoa Crusader 2001 + working jib. Proctor spars, reasonable inventory, requires some updating, but includes liferaft and 3 life jackets.

I acquired Le Poulpe in 2003, have cruised from the Solent to the West Country, and brought Le Poulpe to Kiel via North Sea crossing to Ijmuiden and North Dutch Canals in 2005. Le Poulpe has been laid up, ashore, inside, since Sep 2006, and is reluctantly for sale due to lack of time to give her the use she deserves.

Black Fox 1969/70 | Fin Keel | Lying: Gosport | £11,750

Description Black Fox is believed to be number 2 or number 3 of the Marcon Sabre 27, designed by Alan Hill, and built by Marine Construction in Woolston, Southampton. She was built in 1969, launched in January 1970 and is Lloyds Registered D40252.

Black Fox is a fin keel Mk1 model, is very distinctive amongst her peers, having a 3 foot taller mast and extra weight on the keel. Below she is also unique and is completely fitted out in wood giving her a cosy timeless feel. She has always been moored on the Solent and sailed mainly in this area with occasional trips to Northern France and the West Country.

Black Fox has been featured 4 times on the cover of Sailing publications and many articles, and recently in the Reeds Yacht Buyers Guide. She had a very in depth article in Sailing Today, May 2001 issue ‘Sabre 27 is there a better 27 footer?’
